Notice and Call for Stakeholders
Green Seal, Inc., announces that it is initiating a review and potential revision of its environmental standard for institutional and industrial cleaners, GS-37, and seeks stakeholders who wish to actively participate in this effort.
Since GS-37 was first developed in 2000, new issues and information have arisen in such areas as emissions to the air, endocrine disruptors, asthmagens, etc. Also, as major entities such as New York State have adopted GS-37, issues have been raised about its adequacy in protecting the health of sensitive and vulnerable populations such as school-age children and custodial workers. In addition, improved technology, product design, and market innovations may require that the standard be upgraded to guarantee that it still represents environmental leadership in the marketplace.
The goal of this effort is to conduct a thorough review of GS-37 through an open and transparent process that hopefully achieves a consensus among stakeholders. The review and potential revision of the standard will ensure that it represents an environmental leadership standard and incorporates criteria that fully protect the health of sensitive and vulnerable populations.
Green Seal invites all parties interested in the standard and the product category it covers to actively participate as stakeholders in the process of this review and potential revision of the standard. Stakeholders will have an opportunity to provide input throughout the process through a representative stakeholders committee. All members of the public, whether identified as stakeholders or not, will be able to comment on the proposed revised standard in the formal public comment period during this process.
Anyone interested in participating as a stakeholder should send their name and full contact information, including their organization or occupation, by February 15, 2007, to GS37@utk.edu.
